How to Write a Greeting That Sounds Like You

A personal greeting does not have to be long or poetic. It needs to sound as though it was written for one person. Start by deciding what you want them to feel: appreciated, celebrated, remembered or encouraged. That choice gives the message a direction before you open a template.

Use a name, a detail and a wish

Choose one detail that belongs to your relationship: a shared memory, something they did for you or a quality you admire. Add a wish that fits the occasion, then read the message aloud. If you would never say a phrase in conversation, replace it. A familiar voice is more valuable than an impressive sentence.

Messages and examples to adapt

Thank you for making ordinary days feel lighter. Wishing you a birthday full of the people and little things you love.

This Diwali, I’m grateful for every conversation that made us feel closer. Wishing you a peaceful celebration and many more happy moments together.

Should I copy a message exactly?

Use examples as starting points. Changing one real detail can make a short message feel much more personal than forwarding a long quote unchanged.
